A ministry philosophy is a strategically organized set of values.

Leadership observations flow from:

(1) vv 1-6, The Parable of the Sheepfold-particularly intimacy between Jesus and his followers;

(2) vv 7-21, Identifying characteristics of the Shepherd Philosophical model;

(3) vv 22-42, Intimacy Issues;

(4) vv 22-42, Son of God;

(5) vv 31, 39, Invincibility Principle.

Of particular note is the Shepherd Philosophical Leadership Model that is introduced here in the midst of conflict.

Ministry philosophy is a key to a leader's overall influence and ultimate achievement.

A ministry philosophy is a strategically organized set of values. They guide a leader in his/her application of personal giftedness, calling, and influence in leadership situations. Ultimately they move a leader to achieve God-given purposes and leave behind an ultimate contribution for a life-work.

A leadership value is an underlying assumption which affects how a leader behaves in or perceives leadership situations. The first two contexts in ch 10 give some fundamental values for the Shepherd Model.

Note: All leaders have a ministry philosophy.

Most philosophies are implicit. That is, the leader operates using these values but probably couldn't state them so others would know what they are.

Note the quote. A ministry philosophy should strategically guide a leader.

To do so, the more explicit are the values the better the strategic guidance. An explicit understanding of the major leadership values which under gird one's ministry allows:

1. For decision making;

2. For adaptation, rejection, or more deliberate use of values;

3. For the passing on of these values to others.
